Over 1 Million People Contact Genital Warts Every Year – Don’t Become One Of Them

Published by admin under Story

We’re all afraid of something, and medically, there are few people who wouldn’t be horrified to discover they have genital warts. Most sufferers are horrible embarrassed by the condition, and find everything about it scary. It doesn’t help that it’s a sexually transmitted disease, and sufferers always have to be conscious of the fact that they might pass it on. Like most medical conditions, however, the more you understand about what’s happening and what you can do about it, the less fear you will feel.

Considering genital warts are rarely spoken about, it’s surprising to find how widespread a problem it actually is. It’s estimated that somewhere between ten and twenty million Americans have genital warts, with about one million more contracting the disease every year. Participating in unprotected sexual activity is the most likely way of catching genital warts, but there are also some groups who are more at risk. These include pregnant women, and people who suffer from some sort of immune system deficiency. Both these groups are more likely to catch the disease than the average person.

If you have any suspicion that you might have genital warts, then it’s important to get it checked out by your doctor. It’s quite possible for abnormal skin growths to occur in the genital region, which are in fact harmless that will disappear again without any treatment. Genital warts, however, are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. It’s the same virus that causes warts to grow on other parts of the body as well, with the hands and feet being common locations. It’s a special variety of HPV that causes genital warts, which means that having warts on other parts of your body doesn’t mean you’ll also get genital warts.

Despite the fact that they are contagious, and spread through sexual contact, the warts don’t actually cause a great deal of harm to the body. Probably the main medical issue associated with genital warts is an increased risk of cervical cancer in women. It’s interesting to note that of women diagnoses with cervical cancer, around 90 percent have been diagnoses with genital warts. Remember, though, that having genital warts doesn’t automatically mean that you will get cervical cancer. However it’s wise to increase your rate of pap smears to one a year, instead of every two years, just as a matter of caution.

In the end, however, the best thing you can do for yourself is to avoid having unprotected sex. That way, your chances of contracting genital warts in the first place are almost non-existent. If you suspect that you do have genital warts, visit your doctor for a proper diagnosis. Genital warts aren’t life threatening, but they’re an embarrassing and annoying problem that is best avoided. So take care of yourself.

Scrapbooking Borders

Published by admin under Story

Are scrapbooking borders really necessary or are they becoming a thing of the past?

Fashions come and go & admittedly at one time, to create a scrapbook and not think to include borders would have been sacrilege.

They frame a page beautifully and can often entail themes of a certain event or day that took place. I’ve often colour-coded my borders within a scrapbook, denoting different countries visited and/or different ages of nieces and nephews when collating family memorabilia. So, in the past I’ve been grateful for borders. They certainly have more uses than just adding decoration and a frame.

However, of late I’ve been scrapbooking and have deliberately not included borders.

Maybe it’s because I’ve more time on my hands now and I want to break out of a rut but I’m trying to make my pages more interesting. Having no borders is making me explore other options and making me literally think outside the box.

Scrapbooking borders have been useful for framing a page but when I really want to hold my reader’s interest and draw attention to something, not having a border surprises them and that in itself; I find, draws them into the page.

I personally like the look of parchment or anything that gives an aged effect to my work and often this entails less than perfect finishes and plenty of texture.

Borders, I find can be too neat and exacting for this style & instead I like the occasional piece of a journal to stick out beyond a page, inviting the reader to think “oh, I wonder what that’s about”. As long as it is presented sturdily and in not too outlandish a fashion, I think it works rather well.

Then instead of a border, a momento can be affixed to a corner of the page and a little quote or explanation can be included near to it. This allows more to be included on each page and gives a more unique and personalised effect for your treasured scrapbook.

Scrapbooking borders, to be or not to be? The choice is yours.

Take a Deep Breath – Be More Confident Giving Your Self-Introduction With Physical Power

Published by admin under Story

This is the fourth article in a series covering six steps you can take that will give you more confidence and physical power.

Step Three: Take a Deep Breath When I was nine years old I learned several life lessons from Coach “Motor Mouth” Nichols. One in particular that has stuck with me all these years; “Gould” he started, “you gotta BREATHE boy!” He was teaching me how to shoot free throws, the shot a basketball player gets to take when he’s been fouled. The fouled player stands at a line fifteen-feet from the basket and gets to shoot while all the other players stand on the side waiting for the shot. Sounds a lot like a networking self-introduction doesn’t it?

If you watch professional basketball players prepare to shoot free throws, you’ll notice that each player has his or her own special style. Mannerisms, number of times they dribble the ball, and amount of time they take are all as unique as the player themselves. However, every player will eventually take the ball in their hands and take a very deep breath just before shooting the ball. Every one, every time. Why? Coach Nichols told me that shooting foul shots is the only place in the game where you get to consciously think before you act. Most of the time the game is moving so fast you just have to instinctively act. Those with the best instincts win, the others are just reacting to the action. “Son, you want this to be your very best effort, so clear your mind” he said.

Taking a deep breath clears your mind because you’ve added extra oxygen to your lungs and thereby your bloodstream. Oxygen in the brain has a calming effect and will erase those butterflies or jitters you’re bound to be feeling. Taking a deep breath also gives you the “it’s showtime” cue. You know that you’re about to perform and the adrenaline rush you’re feeling is being harnessed. Of course, this deep breath will also power the words you’re about to say.

All too often people who give their self-introduction cannot be heard. Often this is due to a lack of sufficient air in their lungs to power their voice. You can avoid this problem, give yourself a cue, and calm your nerves with one simple step: Take a deep breath.

In our next article we will discuss step five: Lean Forward. Taking a deep breath is essential to delivering your message. It is just one of six steps necessary to plan for in your physical appearance and to give you the confidence to focus on your message knowing that you appear to be confident and in control.

But whatever it is, football per se is one of the attention-getters in sports arena aside from basketball, wrestling, boxing and softball. Screaming fans are also crazy about football memorabilia, gears and jerseys that have their favorite players’ names on. OJ Simpson football jersey is one of the sough-after items among football followers.

Cheering for their most favorite player on field, fans from different states are shopping here and there to get the best deals of football stuff. In the history of American football, does retired running back O.J. Simpson ring the bell? For sure, you’d remember him as the first-ever NFL player to rush beyond 2,000 yards in a season. He was formerly playing for Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers. But even if he’s given up his pro-football career, OJ Simpson football jersey collections are still making a big hit.

YouTubing for Artists, Writers, Musicians, and Other Enterprising Individuals

Published by admin under Story

I thought over thirteen hundred was a lot of views. My wife’s cousin was over the other day. This thirty-something woman is very into hanging out with her buds and doing some Youtubing. She showed me an artist she likes on YouTube. He does videos of his act of painting. This guy is no slacker. The first Youtube of his she showed me had over a million hits! I checked out his site. He sells giclees, that is, fancy prints, and also posters and cheaper prints of his images.

As soon as I can, I will be videoing myself making some paintings. But…you can’t just do anything. You have to have a plan, obviously. You must entertain. Can you produce entertainment in your video of you at work on your art?

This guy – philinthehole is the name he goes by – has a shtick: He creates art that won’t last. Kind of the opposite of what I do, as far as my sculpture goes. I produce metal sculpture made out of copper and brass and stainless steel. The sculpture is designed to stick around. But this guy… Jimmy Hendricks out of matchsticks, which he lights after he creates the image. Probably took him many, many hours – to create it. It took seconds to light the thing and have it burn, obviously.

He got a million hits! Actually I don’t remember if he got a million hits off the Jimmy Hendricks one. Maybe only three hundred thousand. Only…

A YouTube that receives that much attention should make money. The guy’s gotten on the news. My wife’s cousin told me he got on the news for his portrait of Bush; he created the portrait using images of dead soldiers in Iraq. Now, regardless of your views, politically, you have to admit, this fellow is clever.

He uses rock music created by fairly unknowns. (Not the name of a band, although that would be a good name for a band.) This is progressive, smart, and energetic marketing. If you are an artist, you should be doing video and uploading it. But don’t just do anything. Of course, give some thought to what you do.

Now, the process itself can be powerful, the process of how you make your art. That in itself is interesting. As I say, without any marketing of my video, I’ve had over thirteen hundred hits on a video just of me working on my sculpture. Most of the time I’m holding a welding torch. I’m not saying anything. There’s no music in the background. Admittedly, I do have the video on my site. So I guess I am doing a bit of marketing the video around. Still… thirteen hundred hits and the video is not really that entertaining. Just imagine what you could achieve if you created something fun to watch, or if I did.

If you did that once, that would be wonderful. But if you do it once, you can probably replicate what you did with new ideas for videos.

I would advise against making the video too long. Someone sitting at the computer has 3, 4, 5 minutes for amusement. Remember, the net is a lot about speed and the sound bite. Commercials have had to come around to becoming more sound bite forms of entertainment. You’re not going to watch, otherwise. So what you do has got to be entertaining as well as a commercial for you and your work. This can be done. Start with the activity of making your art and go from there.

I have a deck of creativity cards called “The Whack Pack”. It’s supposed to “give you a whack on the side of your head” metaphorically. Roger von Oech wrote this. I’ll give him a plug and get no affiliate dollars for it, so you know for sure it’s good stuff. There’s a card that says “Do something to it” and explains that the artist Jasper Johns would say that’s how he makes his art. He starts with something and does something to it. So start with your process of making art and do something to it.

That it that you do doesn’t have to be much. Maybe background music and a good, bright enough, clear, in focus image would be enough. Or maybe you need a gimmick. Be playful. Try stuff. This is YouTube, remember? Not surgery and not a gravestone, or anything else written in stone. You could always delete the video. You have that capability. But why would you if it starts getting hits? And it will. Believe me, if it is any good, it will.

How to Become a Popular Guitarist

Published by admin under Story

Those who want to learn to play guitar often think only of guitar heroes that play lead guitar. Rhythm guitar is often considered second best, if at all. This can be a mistake as rhythm playing can be the most fun and satisfying part of both acoustic and electric guitar.

Playing rhythm guitar is also a better way to be in demand as a guitar player. There are few rock bands that don’t rely on a rhythm guitar as part of their sound. The same is not the case for screaming guitar solos. So if you want to maximize your opportunities to play guitar in a band you would be well advised to build solid back up guitar skills. Here are the things you’ll need.

1. Learn as many chords as you can.
2. Learn different chord voicings for each chord.
3. Learn rhythm patterns and styles.
4. Develop your rhythm skills and timing by working with backing tracks.

* Learn As Many Chords As You Can

The basic ingredient of rhythm playing in and style of music is chords. Your first priority to learn how to play rhythm should be to learn as many chords as you can. You should learn both major and minor chords as well chord extensions.

* Learn Chord Voicings

A chord voicing is a particular way of playing the notes of the chords. For example, the root note can be played in the low bass strings or on the high strings.

Learn to play chord voicings so you can create varied and interesting accompaniments. In band situations you should learn how to play three note voicings, called triads, or two note chords, known as double stops. You use these to leave room for other musical instruments and the vocals in the band’s sound.

* Learn Rhythm Patterns

To make good use of your chord knowledge you should work on learning to play a variety of rhythm patterns. Work on developing good timing and keeping your place in the music. It’s essential that you keep a consistent groove to carry the music along. Pay attention to the drummer and the bassist and learn to work with them. A good way to develop your timing and learn to work with the drums and bass is to practice with backing tracks.

Here’s a wrap up of what you need to become a good rhythm guitar player.

1. Learn lots of chords, major, minor and extensions.
2. Learn different voicings for each chord, especially two and three note voicings to leave space.
3. Learn rhythm patterns and styles.
4. Practice with backing tracks to develop good timing.

Remember, rhythm guitar is one of the most fun and interesting ways to play guitar. You might not get so much attention as the lead guitar hero, but it is the best way to be in demand in your local music scene.

Ismail Mohd is the creator of http://www.virtualrockband.com where musicians can meet bassists, drummers, guitarists and vocalists living near them. They can also upload or download instrumental tracks to jam along to.

Designs That Convert

Published by admin under Story

I’ve been in the web design business for 7 years and I’ve seen a lot of websites that stand out. I can honestly say that I’ve designed some kickass looking websites but at the end of the day it doesn’t matters. At the end of the day it’s all about conversion and how well that website converted those visitors into clients.

If you’ve got a kickass looking website but it’s not turning visitors into cash there are a couple things I would look at.

1. Do you have a toll free number in the header on every page?
2. Is the content easy to read?
3. Is there a call to action in the top right corner of the page?
4. Is every page on your site set up as a landing page?
5. Do you have a logo?
6. Is the content written so it is easy to understand?
7. Did you get your website designed by a professional? Good companies might charge slightly more than your friend, but in the long run, the benefits directly affect the conversion ratio.
8. Did you design the ordering process keeping in mind that the average potential customers might have minimal internet skills?
9. Is there a call to action, such as asking to place the order, or sign-up for email should be used at every possible conversion point?
10. Did you make the information about ordering the product is easy to understand and find?
11. Did you place the questions that your visitor might ask in the FAQ section or as small tips during the ordering process?
12. Does your copy instantly connect with the visitor and speak in a personalized and persuasive way?
13. Make your web forms short, sweet and easy to fill. Most importantly, do not ask for unnecessary information.
14. Place endorsements from reputable organizations to build customers trust.
15. Where are the visitors coming from, are you sure they are looking for what you are selling?
16. What colors are you using for your website?

Yes, one of the most interesting things to me is how colors affect the way we think and feel. They affect us whether we are aware of it or not. Some colors affect us more than others but they all have their own individual properties that affect us.

All colors don’t affect all people in the same ways, however, there have been extensive studies done that show how colors effect the majority of people in the same ways. As with all rules, there are exceptions, but to ignore the power of colors would be to ignore an essential element of a good website design.

Another extremely important element to colors is not only the properties or emotions each color conjures up in each of us, but also how combinations of colors make people feel. And to further complicate your perfect color selection you also have to be concerned with the fact that people have to be able to read your content or the most beautiful color in the world will be for nothing. No matter how important you feel the content on your site is, if they can’t read it due to bad color selection they will leave in search of another site to serve their needs.

Writing Articles for the Travel Web

Published by admin under Story

In this modern world, where more and more people can afford international travel, knowledge of the country to be visited is very important.

Thus persons who are knowledgeable about a particular country should try to write interesting articles, outlining not only the attractions of the country, city etc, but also any downfalls, dangers, etc. that people may experience. A bit of honesty goes a long way to prevent unhappy incidents while on holiday! For example, avoid Such-and-such Street as you may be mugged… don’t go near Such-and-such Street as this is the red light district, etc.

Let people know what the most important attractions are, giving a little history if possible. Advise them on modes of travel in the particular country – whether it is more convenient to use public transport, or rent a vehicle. If language may be a problem, advise on buying a phrase book for common sayings in that particular country.

Other important things to bear in mind when writing a travel article and submitting to the article web sites:

1. Check your facts: make sure what you are stating in the article is, in fact, true.

2. Check your spelling, grammar and punctuation: there is nothing worse than badly spelled or worded text, especially for webmasters who wish to use your article as content on their websites! If at all worried, or if English is not your home language, have your article proof read by an English speaking person to check whether all is in order.

3. Don’t make the article too short, or even too long – an ideal guide is to use between 500-1000 words for a comfortably readable article. If you have a lot to say, maybe split the information over several articles, i.e. part 1, part 2, etc.

4. No plagiarism! i.e. do not copy someone else’s work into your article.

5. Web site links: bear in mind that people with similar web sites to your own will want to publish your article as content. Do not pepper your article with several links within the body of the text – this will put people off using the content! They don’t particularly want your article to take potential business away from them immediately. Try to use just one link in the resource box, or the “about the author” section at the bottom of your article.

I hope this helps you in producing top quality articles for the travel web.

Ideal Home Size

Published by admin under Story

The size of a home that one should have affects every aspect of one’s day-to-day life. How big or small a home one should have is determined by various factors chief among them being one’s spending power as well as personal likes and dislikes. In addition, the size of the family that is expected to live there should be taken into consideration.

A small home could mean a one room shelter or an apartment or even a block of flats. It is essential to consider other amenities that are provided for in the home. Furthermore, it could also imply that space is limited thus limiting one’s creativity in such matters as decorating or even extensions to the existing buildings. A small home depending on where it is located could be considered a cheaper option rather than a bungalow or a manor.

A big home should possess diverse facilities that can offer various options for the home owner as well as any guests. A large house goes down to the owner’s personal style. In addition to that, a big home must boast such other facilities as swimming pools, garden, a garage as well as other sports amenities including a basketball court or a tennis court. Unless it is inherited, a big home is likely to set one back a few thousand dollars which could even run into millions or billions depending on the level of luxury that one aspires to have at their disposal

The size of a home that one should have is determined by various factors. One’s preferences play a big role in making such a choice simply because their lifestyle may only be suited to certain features in their home. The funds at ones disposal will no doubt have a say on whether one opts for a big or small home. The location in which the home is built will also determine its size. Family size will affect how many rooms will be required in addition to the other facilities required.

Given the influence it may have on those living in it, it is critical that one seriously consider all aspects before deciding on the size of home to acquire. While it may be very easy to change some aspects of the home such as the furniture, colour, roof and the others, size may not be so easy to manipulate. It should therefore be planned ahead of time.
